How to Conduct a Professional Phone Interview with RESPECT! When you are looking for the perfect new candidate for a position an introductory phone interview is customary. The applicant may live in another country or state so the only way that you can interview them is over the phone. Remember to use RESPECT to truly determine if they are the right fit! The RESPECT method includes:
R – Review the applicant’s employment application and résumé, and the open position’s employee requisition and job description.
E – Engage the applicant at the start of the call with a friendly conversation.
S – Start with the list of questions you have prepared based upon the job specifications and duties.
P – Pick certain answers to probe more completely.
E – Evaluate the answers given and complete the interview evaluation form.
S – Summarize the interview, ask if the applicant interested in continuing the process, and state the next steps.
T – Thank the applicant for their time and interest and plan for the next step.
Following these guidelines should give you the opportunity to really get to know the applicant and see if they are a good fit for the position and the company as a whole.
